Elsa Löwdin

Elsa is a Swedish-born, Berlin-based award-winning documentary filmmaker. In addition to pursuing her own projects in East Africa, the U.S. and across Europe, she has produced, filmed, directed and edited films for leading businesses in the fields of sustainability and innovation. Her favourite projects are those that challenge prejudices through inspiring personal stories. Elsa studied documentary film production at the Swedish Red Cross University in Stockholm. She is a member Transparency International’s Young Journalists program.

Michael Hornsby

Michael is a strategic communications specialist with more than a decade's experience in public relations, content production and publishing. He has led global media releations for a leading INGO as well as crisis communications in aid of at-risk anti-corruption activists.
His work has supported research on the links between climate change and conflict, the role of opaque finance in social and environmental injustice, and investigative journalism across a range of governance issues. Michael studied Turkish and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

Emma Strauss

Emma is a Hungarian-born, Berlin-based documentary filmmaker and video journalist. As a senior producer and manager at a leading video production agency, Emma created films for leading brands and organisations. She has also shot reportage extensively around Europe. Emma's photography projects have taken her to Russia, Mongolia, China and Pakistan, among other countries. Alongside her projects with Oblique, Emma is currently completing her first feature-length documentary, telling survivors' stories of war crimes in Kosovo. She studied Illustration in Brighton, UK.

Our angle

Also known as heart roots, oblique roots grow diagonally from the base of a tree, nourishing and anchoring the plant above the surface. We ground the stories we tell in authentic human experience - intimate, relatable, and revealing – and embed our projects in a strategic communications system. We avoid the obvious angle.
