Dirty money hidden through murky company structures is bad for the planet, bad for democracy and bad for your rights. But the fight for corporate transparency in Europe took a hit in late 2022, when the European Court of Justice struck down public access to beneficial ownership registers that were created in landmark EU anti-money laundering reforms.  

It was clear that, for transparency advocates, this ruling would mean the beginning of a long and renewed battle. As reactions to the ruling appeared in op-ed pages across Europe, campaigners needed a video that explained the issue and framed the debate.

Luckily, we were in Washington D.C for the International Anti-Corruption Conference, together with some of the world’s leading authorities on the public interest of beneficial ownership transparency. We put them on camera and let their authoritative arguments speak for themselves.
